President Kevin's Comments
The past few weeks in level 2 have brought home to us all just how vulnerable we are when pandemics or natural events occur. Fortunately, now there is a sense of normality and we can get on with life as normal.
It was great to have DG Dylan Murray with us on Sept 8. Dylan has a clear picture of what he wants our District to achieve and how he thinks we need to promote Rotary. He recently sent an email with photos showing the roadside signs advertising the service clubs that appear at the entrance to most towns.
The photos clearly showed most of the signs were out of date and needed some attention.
This was discussed at this months Directors meeting and we will have a look and see what is possible.
John Whitaker told us about the learner driver programme organised by REAP which some of our members assist with (see John's comments below). They are in need of more people to help. If you feel you have the time and skills please contact either John Whitaker or Bernie Lepper.
The Charity Dinner is set for Nov 28th. As one of our major fundraisers we need all members to get in behind John and his team to ensure we get sponsors, participants and auction items. Spread the
word to contacts, friends (for those who have some), colleagues etc to get a table together and support our community effort.
We have recently received a District Grant of about $1900 to cover ½ the cost of our annual dictionaries in schools project. Thanks to Jillian Jopp for her efforts in securing this funding.
Recently Baz Bemrose, Richard McKenzie and I interviewed Dunstan High candidates for the Summer Science School. We have put 2 candidates forward to the District selection panel. The quality of students we
see from Dunstan High is refreshing and shows how competent and dedicated some of our youth are.
A reminder to all that meeting apologies need to be in to Greg Hunter by midday Monday prior to the meeting. We are committed to paying our caterer for the meals ordered. Greg advises her of
numbers shortly after midday Monday – she needs this time to sort her food out. I notice from other club bulletins that midday the day prior to the meeting is common for notification.
I realise that illness etc. can happen but the club is out of pocket when we have fewer than expected turn up.
Please help the club by doing your bit – we need to address this issue.
